The Problem
Wholesale matcha buying is fragmented, opaque, and manual.
Cafe owners source matcha through a tangle of distributor catalogs, email chains, and trade show business cards. Pricing is hidden behind "contact us" forms. Comparing suppliers means opening a dozen browser tabs and sending a dozen emails. Reordering means digging up an old invoice and hoping the price hasn't changed.
On the supplier side, it's just as broken. Small and mid-size Japanese matcha brands handle wholesale through Shopify forms, email threads, and spreadsheets. They don't have the resources to build a proper wholesale portal, so they lose reorders to friction and new customers to invisibility.
Both sides deserve purpose-built tools — not workarounds adapted from consumer e-commerce.

Matcha Square was born from Element Matcha — a matcha brand based in Los Angeles. Selling wholesale meant juggling email threads, manually tracking samples, and losing reorders to friction. The tools that existed were built for general wholesale, not for the specific way matcha is sourced, sampled, and sold.
So we built the platform we wished existed — purpose-built for Japanese matcha, from farm-level sourcing data to the last mile of wholesale reorders. Every feature comes from a real problem we hit as a supplier.
